November 2026: Holiday Preview & Hometown Magic

Your Monthly Guide to Waterloo Region, Wellington County, Stratford & Beyond

Prepared October 26, 2026 | Suggested publication date: October 28, 2026

Discover. Explore. Belong.

November has a little bit of everything in Southwestern Ontario. One minute we're admiring the last golden leaves, and the next we're untangling Christmas lights, buying handmade gifts and wondering how it's possible that December is almost here.

And somewhere in the middle of all that, Santa apparently decides to visit every town in Ontario. ๐ŸŽ…

Welcome to the November edition of Magnolia Living, your monthly guide to what's happening across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Elmira, St. Jacobs, New Hamburg, Guelph, Elora, Fergus, Wellington County, Stratford, St. Marys and our surrounding communities.

This month, we're celebrating local artisans, supporting community organizations, discovering wonderful theatre and music, exploring the outdoors and making time for the people and places that make our communities feel like home.

Whether you're planning a family outing, a date night, a day with friends or a little adventure with your favourite four-legged companion, there's plenty to discover.

Editor's note: Event details were researched against organizer, municipal, venue and tourism information available October 26, 2026. Where organizers haven't published admission prices or precise performance times, we've identified that rather than guessing. Admission, weather plans and schedules may change, so check the linked event pages before visiting.

๐ŸŒฟ Local Spotlight: The Village of St. Jacobs

A Village That Knows How to Celebrate the Season

There's something about St. Jacobs that feels particularly special in November.

The independent shops, historic buildings, local makers and surrounding countryside create an atmosphere that encourages you to slow down and explore.

And during Sparkles, the entire village embraces the holiday season.

You can browse local boutiques, enjoy dinner, listen to carollers and take a horse-drawn wagon ride through the decorated streets.

St. Jacobs is also a wonderful destination for handmade gifts.

Whether you're shopping for locally created art, home dรฉcor, books, specialty foods or something for your favourite dog, there are plenty of independent businesses to discover.

Magnolia's suggested afternoon:

Start with a visit to the farmers' market, explore the village shops, stop for lunch, take a walk along the Health Valley Trail and return after sunset to enjoy the lights.

That's a pretty wonderful Saturday.

๐ŸŽ What's in Season in November?

November is a wonderful month for hearty, locally grown foods.

Look for:

- Apples

- Winter squash

- Pumpkins

- Carrots

- Potatoes

- Beets

- Cabbage

- Onions

- Parsnips

- Locally produced honey

- Maple syrup

- Preserves

- Fresh baking

Availability varies by producer and growing conditions, but year-round farmers' markets remain excellent places to discover seasonal Ontario foods.

Magnolia kitchen idea: Pick up apples, squash and locally made bread for a cozy weekend dinner.

๐Ÿก Homeowner Corner: Getting Ready for Winter

November is a good time to finish preparing your home for colder weather.

Before temperatures drop further, consider:

- Disconnecting and draining outdoor hoses.

- Checking exterior taps and water lines.

- Cleaning gutters after the leaves have fallen.

- Inspecting weatherstripping around doors and windows.

- Replacing furnace filters where required.

- Checking smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

- Preparing snow shovels, ice melt and winter footwear.

- Confirming that exterior lights work properly.

A little preventative maintenance now can help avoid expensive surprises later.

And nobody wants to discover a frozen outdoor tap while they're supposed to be decorating cookies.
