🍺 Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest
September 25 to October 17, 2026
It would be downright suspicious to write an October guide to Waterloo Region without starting here.
Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest returns for its 58th year, bringing Bavarian food, music, dancing, Festhallen, community celebrations and plenty of gemütlichkeit to Waterloo Region.
The festival runs from September 25 through October 17, although individual events happen on specific dates rather than every day.

Willkommen Platz
October 9 to 11 | Downtown Kitchener
Downtown Kitchener transforms into a Bavarian village for three days, with a Biergarten, German food, live entertainment and local vendors along King Street and around Carl Zehr Square.
Even better, admission is free, and the Biergarten is family and dog friendly.
The official keg tapping happens Friday, October 9 from noon to 1 p.m., and the weekend includes live entertainment and both indoor and outdoor vendor markets.
KIDtoberfest
October 9 to 11 | Kitchener City Hall
Got little Oktoberfesters?
KIDtoberfest takes over the Kitchener City Hall Rotunda from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, with traditional music, dancing, Bavarian-themed activities and family entertainment geared especially toward children ages 3 to 10.
Admission is free.
Oktoberfest Thanksgiving Day Parade
Monday, October 12 | 9:30 a.m.
One of Waterloo Region’s signature traditions returns Thanksgiving Monday.
The parade begins at Weber Street East and Frederick Street in Kitchener and travels along Weber toward Waterloo, finishing around noon.
Bring a chair, dress for October weather and arrive early. The parade runs rain or shine.

🎃 Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes & Fall Farm Adventures
October in Waterloo Region really isn't complete until you've wandered through a pumpkin patch, gotten mildly lost in a corn maze and bought at least one pumpkin that is objectively too large for the front porch.
Fortunately, we have some fantastic pumpkin patches, corn mazes and fall farms near Kitchener-Waterloo.
Whether you're planning a family outing, fall date, Thanksgiving weekend adventure or simply need photographic evidence that you participated in autumn, add these to your October list.
Benjamin Tree Farm
September 19 to October 31 | Waterloo
Benjamin Tree Farm isn't just for Christmas trees.
Located at 770 Benjamin Road in Waterloo, the farm transforms for pumpkin season with pumpkins, gourds, mums, fall décor and a whole collection of family-friendly activities.
For 2026, fall activities include the Towering Stalks Kiddie Corn Maze, tractor rides through the Frightening Forest, pumpkin bowling and Cobby's Corn Pit. There's also the wooded Hemlock Creek Trail, making this much more than a quick stop to grab a pumpkin.
Pumpkin season runs September 19 through October 31.
This is a particularly easy fall outing for families in Waterloo, Kitchener, Elmira, St. Jacobs and Woolwich Township, since you don't have to travel far at all.
And yes, the same Benjamin Tree Farm we associate with Christmas trees apparently has an entire autumn personality.
We respect a good seasonal rebrand.
Plan your visit to Benjamin Tree Farm
Snyder's Family Farm
Bright, Ontario
If you're looking for the full fall-festival experience near Kitchener-Waterloo, Snyder's Family Farm in Bright is a big one.
Snyder's has a 16-acre pumpkin patch, 5-acre corn maze, hayrides, farm animals, jumping pillows, pedal carts, play areas, live entertainment and more than 25 attractions.
And here's a useful little pumpkin-shopping secret:
You don't need admission to visit Snyder's pumpkin patch. You can wander through the field, choose your pumpkins and pay for what you pick.
If you do want to turn it into an entire day, Fall Fun admission gives you access to attractions including the corn maze, hayride, petting zoo, Mega Slide, jumping areas and play structures.
There's also the Red Barn Bakery, because apparently navigating a corn maze burns exactly enough calories to justify baked goods.
Snyder's Family Farm fall information and tickets
And for those looking for something considerably less adorable after dark, Snyder's is also home to Fear Farm.
More on THAT in a minute.
Strom's Farm & Bakery
September 18 to October 31 | Guelph
Technically just outside Waterloo Region, but close enough that I'm claiming it for our October adventure list.
Strom's Farm & Bakery is located on Wellington Road 32 in Guelph, about a 15-minute drive from Kitchener-Waterloo, and its 2026 fall season runs September 18 through October 31.
The star attraction is the 5-acre corn maze with more than five kilometres of pathways.
Yes. Five kilometres.
Choose your corn-maze partner carefully. This is no time to discover your significant other has absolutely no sense of direction.
The Harvest Fun Area also includes wagon rides, pedal carts, a straw maze, low ropes course, Bubble Barn and other activities.
Mazing in the Moonlight
For something different, Strom's opens its corn maze after dark on select October evenings.
The 2026 Night Maze dates are October 17, 21–24 and 28–30, from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
Bring a flashlight because the maze itself is unlit.
Select evenings also feature live music, Glow Nights and Thursday night line dancing on October 22 and 29.
Corn maze plus line dancing?
Now they've got my attention.
See Strom's Farm's fall hours, corn maze and Night Maze details
Good Family Farm Pumpkins
Waterloo
If you're less interested in an admission ticket and more interested in finding a fantastic pumpkin, put Good Family Farm on your list.
The family has been selling pumpkins, squash and gourds from its Waterloo-area roadside farm stand since 1994, making this a wonderfully simple local stop for porch pumpkins, carving pumpkins and fall decorating.
Sometimes you don't need a Ferris wheel, haunted barn and pumpkin cannon.
Sometimes you just need a really good pumpkin.
Shuh Orchards
West Montrose
Want to mix your corn maze with apple picking?
Shuh Orchards in West Montrose is a fourth-generation farm with approximately 62,000 apple trees spread across 50 acres.
During fall picking season, visitors can pick their own apples and enjoy tractor wagon rides, a corn maze and petting zoo.
It's also a great excuse to take one of those gorgeous October drives through Woolwich Township, particularly when the fall colours are doing their thing.
Fall Harvest Farm
Wellesley
For another quieter country stop, Fall Harvest Farm in Wellesley is a lovely place to browse pumpkins and squash in all kinds of colours, shapes and varieties.
This is a good addition to a fall drive through Wellesley Township, especially if your autumn decorating philosophy is:
Surely the front porch could accommodate just one more pumpkin.
It can.
Probably.
🍎 Make It a Fall Farm Road Trip
One of the perks of living in Waterloo Region is how quickly city turns into countryside.
You can leave Kitchener or Waterloo and, within minutes, find yourself driving past farms, fields, Mennonite country roads, pumpkin stands and spectacular fall scenery.
Try this:
Start in St. Jacobs for the Farmers' Market → head toward West Montrose for apples at Shuh Orchards → visit Benjamin Tree Farm for pumpkins and fall activities → finish with dinner back in Waterloo.
Or head southwest toward Bright for Snyder's Farm and make the entire day about pumpkins, corn mazes, baked goods and questionable navigational decisions.
Explore more pumpkin patches and corn mazes through Explore Waterloo Region
Local tip: Farm hours, attractions and picking conditions can change with weather and crop availability, so check each farm's website or social media before heading out.
Now that we've handled the wholesome pumpkins-and-apple-cider portion of October...
Let's get spooky.
👻 Halloween & Spooky Season in Waterloo Region
If your preferred October aesthetic involves pumpkins, ghosts and willingly paying someone to terrify you in a cornfield, Waterloo Region has you covered.
Fear Farm
Throughout October | Bright
Just outside Waterloo Region, Fear Farm is back for the 2026 season with its famous Haunted Hayride and multiple haunted attractions.
This one is decidedly on the scarier side and is intended for older teens and adults.
Tickets should be purchased online in advance.
If you like your October evenings with considerably more screaming than normal, there you go.
Bingemans Screampark
Select nights throughout October | Kitchener
Another Waterloo Region Halloween staple, Bingemans Screampark returns with haunted attractions, live actors, eerie trails and enough strategically placed darkness to make you reconsider every noise behind you.

Waterloo Vampire Hangout
October 30 | Waterloo Public Square
This may win my award for Best Event Name of October.
The City of Waterloo's Vampire Hangout takes place Friday, October 30 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Waterloo Public Square, featuring a DJ, live music and a Vampire Fashion Show.
Yes, apparently Uptown Waterloo is getting vampires.
Honestly, it's about time.

🏛️ Halloween at Waterloo Region Museums
Our local museums are getting wonderfully weird this month too.
The Region of Waterloo Museums and Archives has fall and Halloween programming at:
Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village
Schneider Haus National Historic Site
McDougall Cottage Historic Site
One particularly sweet option is Kids Trick or Treat at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum on October 25, where children can trick-or-treat through the historic village along with activities, crafts and music.
McDougall Cottage also hosts seasonal programming along the Grand in Cambridge.

🎭 Theatre & Live Entertainment
October isn't all lederhosen and fake chainsaws.
It is also an excellent month for live entertainment in Waterloo Region.
Into the Woods
St. Jacobs Country Playhouse
St. Jacobs Country Playhouse welcomes Into the Woods this October, with performances beginning October 8.
Stephen Sondheim's beloved musical twists together familiar fairy tales and asks what happens after everyone gets what they wished for.
Several October performances may sell quickly, so this is one I'd book rather than casually thinking, “We should do that sometime.”
We all know where sometime goes.
See performances and tickets from Drayton Entertainment
Jonas and Barry in the Home
Hildebrand Schoolhouse Theatre, St. Jacobs
Drayton Entertainment is also presenting Jonas and Barry in the Home at the intimate Hildebrand Schoolhouse Theatre in St. Jacobs.
Pair this with dinner and a walk through St. Jacobs and you've got yourself a pretty lovely October date night.

🎸 Live Music at Maxwell’s
Waterloo's Maxwell's Concerts & Events keeps the live music rolling through October.
The venue is one of Waterloo Region's best spots to watch touring bands and live performances in a more intimate setting, and October ends appropriately with Heavy Metal Halloween on October 31.
If your Halloween costume looks better with a guitar solo behind it, this might be your night.

💀 Día de los Muertos in Downtown Kitchener
October 31
Halloween isn't the only celebration happening October 31.
Downtown Kitchener hosts its annual Día de los Muertos, celebrating Mexican culture and the tradition of remembering loved ones who have died.
The event includes music, food, dance, mariachi and ofrendas where visitors can honour loved ones.

🍎 Farmers' Markets & Fall Wandering
You don't actually need an “event” to enjoy October here.
Sometimes the correct fall plan is simply: put on a sweater, acquire something containing cinnamon and wander around looking at pumpkins.
St. Jacobs Farmers' Market
St. Jacobs Farmers' Market is particularly good in October, when Ontario's harvest season is in full swing.
The market operates Thursdays and Saturdays, making it an easy anchor for a fall day in St. Jacobs.
Pair the market with a drive through Woolwich Township, a walk through the village and perhaps an afternoon performance at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse.
That is a pretty respectable Saturday.
Kitchener Market
Downtown Kitchener's Kitchener Market is another Saturday favourite, with local produce, meats, baked goods, specialty foods and rotating artisan vendors.
Grab breakfast upstairs, shop downstairs and then wander downtown.
Cambridge Farmers' Market
Don't overlook the Cambridge Farmers' Market, either.
It's one of the oldest markets in Canada and another excellent Saturday morning destination, particularly when downtown Galt is dressed in its fall colours.
🍁 Get Outside Before the Leaves Disappear
October is one of the prettiest months to explore Waterloo Region on foot.
And you certainly don't need an organized event to enjoy it.
Try:
Huron Natural Area in Kitchener for trails, forest and wetlands.
Laurel Creek Conservation Area in Waterloo for an easy autumn escape.
Walter Bean Grand River Trail for kilometres of walking along the Grand River.
Cambridge to Paris Rail Trail if you'd like a longer fall walk or bike ride.
Waterloo Park if you'd rather combine fall colours with coffee and an Uptown Waterloo wander.
Health Valley Trail around St. Jacobs for a beautiful walk through the Conestogo River valley.
For conservation areas, trails and current conditions, visit Grand River Conservation Authority.
October foliage waits for nobody. 🍁
🎨 Arts, Culture & Something a Little Different
October is also a good excuse to explore some of the cultural spaces we sometimes forget are right here.
Visit the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery in Uptown Waterloo.
Check what's showing at THEMUSEUM in Downtown Kitchener.
Explore contemporary Canadian art at Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery.
Or head to Cambridge and visit the Idea Exchange locations throughout the city for exhibitions, workshops, talks and community programming.
These are particularly useful to keep in your back pocket when October weather decides that your carefully planned outdoor adventure was adorable.
🚂 Thanksgiving Weekend in Waterloo Region
Thanksgiving weekend is particularly busy this year thanks to its overlap with Oktoberfest.
Between Willkommen Platz, KIDtoberfest, the Thanksgiving Day Parade, pumpkin farms, corn mazes, fall colours, farmers' markets and local attractions, you could very easily turn the long weekend into a Waterloo Region staycation.
And frankly, nobody has to pack shampoo into a tiny bottle for a staycation, so it already has an advantage.
📅 October 2026 Dates Worth Circling
If your calendar is starting to resemble competitive Tetris, here are a few dates worth remembering:

🏡 October Is Also a Pretty Great Month to Explore Waterloo Region
One of the things I love about living and working in Waterloo Region is that our communities don't all feel the same.
Spend Saturday morning at the market in St. Jacobs, Saturday afternoon walking through Uptown Waterloo, Saturday evening at a show in Downtown Kitchener, and Sunday wandering along the Grand River in Cambridge and you've experienced four completely different sides of the same region.
And that matters when you're deciding where to live.
Finding the right home isn't only about bedrooms, bathrooms and square footage.
It's also about what's outside your front door: the neighbourhood, trails, restaurants, markets, festivals, schools, commute and the little local traditions that eventually start feeling like yours.
If you're considering a move to Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, St. Jacobs, Elmira, Wellesley or anywhere else in Waterloo Region, I'd be happy to help you explore the communities as well as the homes.
